Sod

J.S.J Unlimited strives to offer the best quality sod at an unmatched value. As we are not a farm, we are able to purchase from anywhere in the state of Florida! This allows us to only purchase from the farms with the best product. We have close relationships with most of the growers in Florida and are monitoring quality daily. All the sod we sell is cut fresh and picked up & delivered to you within 24 hours of harvest. We get fresh loads daily unlike the big box stores who only get a shipment once per week. Bahia Sod

Introduced to Florida in 1913, Bahia Grass has withstood the test of time. Commonly known as pasture grass, Bahia is what you see cows grazing on or on the side of the highway. In our opinion, it is the only true “low maintenance” grass available. It is extremely drought resistant once established due to its robust root system and needs less nutrients than other grasses. Bahia is resistant to most pests and disease as well. The pitfall of Bahia is that it can only grow from seed; it does not crawl or creep. In most lawn environments the seed pods are mowed off before they mature, which means the Bahia cannot multiply itself. This can lead to thin or bare spots over time. To prevent this, J.S.J. Unlimited recommends overseeding your lawn once per year in the fall.

St Augustine

Second to Bahia, Floratam St. Augustine, or Full Sun St. Augustine is one of the most common grasses used in Florida. It is characterized by its coarse appearance and flat wide blade. Its spreads horizontally quickly filling in bare spots however is not resistant to wear. It thrives in Florida’s warm, humid climate and may lose its color in the cooler months. Ideal mow height is 4” and St. Augustine does require substantial watering and care to stay healthy.

Per Piece = $2.75 Per Pallet = $190.00

St Augustine Shade

Characterized by a thinner blade and denser canopy as compared to Floratam full sun St. Augustine, the St. Augustine shade varieties can withstand more shade for those areas where large existing tress may be. The only true shade grasses in Florida are varieties of St. Augustine like Palmetto, Seville, Bitter Blue, or Evergreen. Other varieties like Bahia, Zoysia, or Bermuda will always struggle in the shade long-term. That being said, even the shade St. Augustine varieties will require 6-8 hours of direct or filtered sunlight each day to avoid thinning.

Shade: Full pallets only – NO PIECES, Special Order Only, Available October-May

Note: Soil conditions, weather, & amount of shade drastically affect watering schedules. Shade grasses must be treated for disease immediately and frequently after install to avoid loss. Installation in summer months is highly unrecommended. For this reason JSJ Unlimited, LLC will NOT sell shade grasses during the months of June-September.

Per Piece = $3.50 Per Pallet = $225.00

Bermuda

Commonly found on golf courses, Bermuda is a short height, very fine bladed, dense-growing turf. Offered in a multitude of specific varieties, it is known for its extreme wear resistance. This is a high maintenance turf. If interested in this variety please give us a call to see what is available as the demand for Bermuda is at an all-time high due to development in Florida.

Per Pallet = $260.00

Provista

Developed by Scotts, ProVista is best known for its resistance to Glyphosate (main ingredient in most herbicides). This means you can kill weeds and not your sod! ProVista is a variety of St. Augustine but with the touch of Scotts has been bred to maintain a deep green color. It’s preferred mow height is 3.5 - 4” and does require substantial watering. Note: Weed control not recommended in Summer Months.

Per Piece = $3.00 Per Pallet = $200.00

Zoysia

Similar to the growth style of Bermuda, Zoysia prefers to be cut at a height of 2” or less and grows a dense canopy. It is fine bladed as compared to St. Augustine but not so much as Bermuda. It has exceptional drought resistance; however it will leaf fire (turn brown) as a defense mechanism to stay living. Initial grow-in requires substantial watering. Most common varieties available are Palisade Zoysia, Citra Zoysia, & Empire Zoysia.
