At JSJ Unlimited, we recently completed a stunning lawn transformation for a Central Florida homeowner using Palisade Zoysia sod. Here’s how we ensured a lush, healthy result that will thrive for years to come:

Step 1: Soil Amendment for Lasting Success

Before laying any sod, we amended the soil with COMAND Soil. This crucial step enriches the ground, providing the ideal foundation for new turf to establish strong roots and flourish.

Step 2: Expert Zoysia Sod Installation

With the soil prepped, we installed premium Palisade Zoysia sod—a top choice for Central Florida due to its dense growth and resilience. Proper installation is key to long-term success.

Step 3: The Right Mowing Schedule

One of the most common mistakes with Zoysia is waiting too long before the first mowing. We mowed the new sod at a height of 2” just seven days after installation. After that, we continued mowing weekly at the same height to encourage healthy, even growth.

Step 4: Strategic Watering for Deep Roots

Watering is a science! Our approach:

  • First week: Watered twice daily to help the sod establish.
  • Second week: Reduced to once daily.
  • Third week: Watered four times a week.
  • Fourth week: Cut back to twice a week.

By gradually reducing the watering frequency, we encourage the turf to develop deep roots. This leads to healthier grass that requires less water over time—a win for both the homeowner and the environment.
